Reading
- We finished up our unit on Character Study. When reading with your child at home, continue to ask your child about the characters in their stories. Discuss how the characters feelings change over time and why. Next week, we will start a fun unit on fables and fairytales!
- We practiced reading our poetry smoothly and with expression! As a result, we had an amazing poetry reading.
- We finished up poetry. I hope you had an opportunity to look at all of their poems that came home on Tuesday. Their published poems will be sent home on Monday! Look for it in your child's home folder.
- We began our final writing unit which is all about student choice and incorporating all of the strategies we've learned throughout the year into our writing....no matter the genre! Students have the opportunity to choose which genre of writing they do each day. Ask your child about their topic and genre! The young writers are so engaged and excited about this unit!
- We focused on telling time to the hour, half hour, and to the closest 5 minutes.
- We studied AM and PM and identified when we would do certain things (are you asleep at 1:00pm or 1:00am? Do you eat lunch at 12:30am or 12:30pm)
Science
- We made magnets levitate and moved cars without using our hands. Ask your child how they did this! How do we know if magnets are going to attract or repel?
Social Studies
- We finished learning about Asia. This week we learned about Africa. Ask your child to tell you a few facts, a landmark, and a few animals you might find in Africa!
Fundations
- We had our unit 15 Fundations assessment! Look for it in your child's home folder on Monday. We only have 2 units left!
SEL (Social and Emotional Learning):
- We learned about the importance of playing fairly on the playground. Deciding on fair rules is respectful and It helps everyone have fun playing a game.
