This week in second grade:
- Bella shared about her week with JiJi and Diana took JiJi home for some math fun!
- Ask your child about our new compliment greeting! It was a great way to start the day.
- Ask your child about the new recycling program at the Eliot!
- We celebrated Sean’s birthday
- Yesterday was our last Eagle Block lesson for cycle 3. Cycle 4 will start on Monday, March 13. Ask your child what their focus was on this past cycle.
- Brainstormed how to solve problems independently.
- Reviewed and practiced what reading workshop looks like and sounds like.
Writing
- We wrote our opinion about... ANYTHING…. Ask your child what they wrote an opinion essay on this week and what their supporting reasons were! Are they able to persuade you?
- We wrote about winter vacation.
- We completed doodles and then wrote about them…this is getting us ready for poetry on Monday!
Math
- We solved addition and subtraction problems on a number line. We also represented place value methods for solving addition and subtraction equations that may involve composing or decomposing a ten.
- This is just another tool/strategy your child can use to help them add and subtract. Have your child show you how to add and subtract using number lines!
- We solved some tricky riddles.
Science
- We learned that you can heat or cool some materials to change them from solid to liquid or from liquid to solid. Ask your child about our crayon experiment from this past week!
SEL
- We talked about different strategies we can use to help us move from the red, yellow, or blue zone, back to the green zone.
- We did a compliment greeting
Fundations
- We learned 6 ways to make the long e sound. Ask your child to tell you all 6 ways!
- We played guess the word at the end of today’s lesson.
Specials
- PE - we started gymnastics
- Art - used quiver and made animals come to life.
- Spanish - we made emojis on our ipads.
- Music - no music this week.
