This was an amazing week! For the first time in over 3 years, Eliot had an in school assembly. And it was hosted by OUR SECOND GRADERS! All four second grade classes taught the school about Earth day and the importance of taking care of our environment. Click HERE to watch the assembly. Reading:
- Readers notice that characters have strong feelings. We should ask ourselves, “What’s causing those feelings?” Characters, just like people in the world, feel things for a reason.” Many times, authors don't just come out and tell the reader how the character is feeling. We need to search for clues and figure it out.
- Readers also think about precise words to describe how characters are feeling. Is my character really mad, as in furious, or just a little mad, as in annoyed?
Writing:
- This week we thought about the things in our lives that are really important and wrote an "I Come From" poem. These are powerful poems and we are excited to share them with you at the poetry reading!
Fundations:
- We completed unit 14 in Fundations and had an end of the unit assessment yesterday! Look for it in your child’s folder on Monday, April 24. We will start unit 15t when we return from break.
Math:
- We began our new unit this past week which focuses on Geometry, money, and time. This week students identified triangles, quadrilaterals, pentagons, hexagons, and cubes.
- Students also recognized and drew shapes which had specified attributes, such as a given number of angles or a given number of equal faces.
SEL (Social and Emotional Learning):
- This week we learned how to take responsibility for our actions.
- Admit what you did
- Apologize
- Make amends
