This week in second grade:
- Ava shared about her week with JiJi and Grace took JiJi home for some math fun!
- We finished reading Wild Robot! Ask your child about the characters in this story and how they solved their problems. The class LOVED this read aloud. The Wild Robot Escapes is the sequel and I know a bunch of students are interested in reading it. We will start our next read aloud on Monday.
- We talked about how words are powerful! Ask your child about their powerful words!
- Did you know that today is National Bubble Gum day? Or that tomorrow is National Chocolate Fondue Day? Each morning we are finding out what fun things are celebrated each day! I hope you all enjoyed National Get Up Day!
- While reading longer books, it helps to ask “why” and question ourselves when something doesn’t make sense. Readers can use what they know about a character and think back to earlier parts of the story to answer our why questions.
- Writers who write about books often need to retell part of the story to help their readers understand their opinion. If you don’t do a little bit of retelling, your readers might be confused. We are continuing to think about our audience while writing.
- We completed unit 9 in Fundations and had an assessment today. Look for it in your child’s folder on Monday.
- This week we picked objects from around the room to measure and then created line plots. We used those line plots to answer questions about the data we had gathered.
- We completed our third math unit! Today we had an assessment. We will start unit 4 on Monday
- This week we learned strategies for handling anxious feelings. Ask your child what they can do if they are feeling worried, stressed, or anxious!
- This week we started a jump rope unit in PE! We also made pinch pots during art class!
