Reading:
- We are working on smoothing out our reading and becoming more fluent readers. When we do this, we need to be careful not to get going, reading faster and faster, and forget to think about the story. Readers can stop after every few pages to check in and make sure they understand what they read. We are working on retelling stories using story elements (characters, setting, problem, and solution) to help guide us.
- I completed our fall reading assessments. Ask your child about the different types of books in their independent book bin!
- We are “zooming in” to tell our stories in exact actions. This helps the reader to visualize what it is you are writing about. We thought about our purpose for writing particular stories. Is it to make the reader laugh? Cry? Feel angry? Feel peaceful? Then we pushed ourselves to add words that would help our readers feel those emotions.
- students used a bar graph to compare two quantities and describe the methods they used to find the unknown difference.
- students to used graphs to make comparison statements and solved Compare problems
- students used their understanding of bar graphs to make sense of tape diagrams
- students worked hard to represent and solve Compare story problems.
- We learned about tape diagrams and how they can be used to compare numbers. Ask your child to make a tape diagram for you!
- The glued sounds ang, ing, ong, ung, ank, ink, onk, unk, an, and am were introduced.
- We completed unit 2 today. The students had an end of the unit assessment which will go home on Monday.
- We learned about sandpaper and cotton ball words and tones. Ask your child to share with you what this means and model using cotton ball words and a cotton ball tone at home!
- We are learning about the different parts of a tree and why they are important. This week we focused on roots. Ask your child to share with you the science experiment we did and ask them what their prediction is!
- Ask your child what they learned about roots and about what they learned from this weeks science experiment!
- We all got new iPads last week!
