Reading:
- second-graders work hard to get stronger and stronger at reading. To get stronger, they set goals, pushing themselves to read more and longer each day.
- When second graders find a lot of tough words on a page, they don’t fall back into the bad habit of reading one word at a time. As second graders read each page, they find words they know and can read in a snap and then they are able to read more and faster! Scooping up the words together and reading in bigger scoops makes the reading feel faster and smoother.
- writers reread to make sure both that their writing says what they want it to say and that it makes sense.
- Writers look for end punctuation. To build this writing habit, it can help to stop after each page, reread, and ask, "Did I use punctuation on this page so that it makes sense?”

- Students worked with a partner to create both a picture graph and a bar graph representing given data from a data table. They then shared their graph with the class!
- Students reviewed bonus letters (f, l, s), the glued sound all, and r controlled vowels ar and er.
- We learned how we can focus our attention on clues to tell us how people are feeling. We can look at their faces, their bodies, and think about the situation.
- We also learned how noticing others’ feelings can help us to have empathy. We played empathy bingo!
- All trees have roots, trunks, bark, stems, and leaves. We observed the trees outside and found evidence to support this statement
- Mrs. Tennyson came and taught us how to code using the app Kodable
