Timmy shared about her week with JiJi and Yaseen took JiJi home for some math fun! Lots of students traded in tickets for special activities or prizes….ask your child what they have traded tickets in for lately! A popular one is having lunch with me (who would have thought having lunch with a teacher would be fun???) and sitting at my desk for the day!

Writing: On Monday, we shared our published stories with Mrs. Rapp’s class! Make sure you check out the pictures in the google photo album!
This week we started our 3rd writing unit which focuses on writing about reading. The first few weeks will have us writing about our opinions on different characters and stories and finding evidence in the books to support our thoughts.
Math: We moved from the metric system to customary measurement. This week we estimated and measured different objects uses inches and feet. Ask your child the following: Mrs. Schwarm said that the elephant was 16 inches long. Mrs. Hawkey disagreed and said the elephant was 16 feeding long. Who do you agree with and why?
Fundations: We started and completed unit 8 for Fundations! Although we have been introduced to r controlled vowels, this week we focused on learning how to spell words with r controlled vowels and what r controlled syllables look like. Look for your child’s unit 8 assessment in their home folder on Monday.
SEL (Social and Emotional Learning): We started a new unit in Second Step which focuses on managing big feelings. This week we learned more about embarrassment and discusses steps for calming down. Ask your child about the calm down song!
Science: We also started a new science unit called Properties and Materials! Students will observe and record physical properties. A physical property is anything that can be seen, heard, smelled, felt or tasted by the senses and/or detected by instruments. Students explored a mystery bag and identified 2 physical properties for each object.
