Isabelle shared about her week with JiJi and Remi took JiJi home for a week of math fun! We can’t wait to hear all about their adventures on Monday!
We made one word New Years Resolutions and wrote about how those words will impact us at home, at school, and in our friendships. Ask your child what their one word resolution is!
Current trick words: city, family, every
Review trick words: eight, large, change, right, together, place only, house, move, always, once, often, against, knew, know, sure, use, used, animal, again, please, done, goes, pretty, both, talk, walk shall, pull, full, does, do, from, here, they, one, said, you, your, was
Reading: We wrapped up our nonfiction reading unit this week! Ask your child about the text features found in nonfiction texts and how they help you to better understand the topic! We ended the week having the students create a presentation and teach the class about one of the topics they learned about during this unit. Everyone did an amazing job!
Writing: While writing our nonfiction books, we thought about our audience and made sure that we didn’t leave our readers confused! We asked ourselves who, what, why, when, where, and how questions and included that information in our books. Next week we will pick one of our favorite stories to publish.
Math: This week we started measurement! We learned the importance of having a standard form of measurement (we used centimeters this week) and we are working on making sure our measurements are accurate. We are also continuing to work on our addition and subtraction skills by comparing measurements, finding the difference in lengths, and combining measurements together.
Fundations: We learned about Open syllables. Open syllables have one vowel which is the last letter in the syllable.
Social Studies - We are studying diversity around the world and how our geography and our daily lives connect us.
Important Reminders:

Fundations: We learned about Open syllables. Open syllables have one vowel which is the last letter in the syllable.
- examples: go, flu, we, I - The vowel makes the long sound in an open syllable.
- y can be the vowel in an open syllable
- y will say the long vowel “i” sound, /ī/, in a one-syllable, open syllable word
- If a two-syllable word ends with the long e sound, we use the vowel y to say e (baby).
- If there is a short vowel sound in the first syllable, we often double the consonant to keep the first syllable closed, and the vowel short.
- we are building words with lots of different syllable types. Ask your child to mark and explain the syllables In the following words:
- remote
- program
- menu
