We did not have our typical Week in Review brainstorming activity on Friday. This past week we enjoyed "free" writing during writing workshop. Students got to write fiction, non fiction, realistic fiction....and they were so excited! Lessons focused on building independence during writing workshop. On Monday, we brainstormed all of the "problems" students run into during independent writing and then came up with ways to solve those problems independently. Ask your child about a problem they sometimes run into when writing independently and find out how they solved it this past week! Tomorrow we will start our new unit on Opinion Writing. We will use our collections to help us with this writing. Thank you for sending them in :-)
In reading we are using tools for solving and checking hard words. We always want to make sure that our reading sounds right, looks right, and makes sense!
In math we are continuing to work on understanding place value, telling time to the half hour, and we have introduced the quarter. We will be opening up the school store soon but first we have to get our bank accounts. I'll give more info on the school store as it gets closer.
We learned that words are made up of parts called syllables. A closed syllable is when there is only 1 vowel and it is closed in after the vowel by 1 or more consonant. If the syllable is closed, then the vowel is short.
We were super comfy in our PJs on Friday and we enjoyed celebrating Dr. Seuss' birthday. Check out the pictures below!
