We are learning how to greet each other and say goodbye in different languages! Each week we will learn a new way to say hello and goodbye.

- we finished unit 1 for Fundations and we had an assessment (look for it in your child’s folder on Monday)
- Mrs. Slotnick came and read a story to us. She showed us how pictures can really support our writing and make it more enjoyable to listen to.
- we started our daily journal! Ask your child what they wrote about today.
- we earned extra recess!
- we practiced counting tally marks
- Mrs. Schwarm opened up her “special” book bins.
- we did a math assessment with Mrs. McKenna. We all did one together in the classroom and then we did one on our own with Mrs. McKenna out in the pod.
- we had a fire drill! We did awesome evacuating the building quickly, calmly and safely.
- we started afternoon snack! These are crunchy snacks which will help us think!
- we got new books in our book bins.
- we had the 20th day of school!
- we worked on the following reading strategies:
- try it two ways
- double check! Does it look right, does sound right, does it make sense!
- check the picture
- look at all parts of the word
- Get a running start.
- We said Hello to Fall and goodbye to the summer! Ask your child what they wrote for this activity!
- Mrs. Schwarm hung the painted leaves up in the classroom.
- we had our first early release day.
- we found pictures of Elephant and Piggie to match our Feelings chart.
- we did a technology project with Mrs. Martell. Check out both of our projects here!
- we got our school calendar ready for October.
- we learned about the word wall and how we can use that as a resource with our writing.
- we learned a new greeting for morning meeting (ball greeting). Ask your child what their favorite type of greeting is.
- we built our stamina for independent reading up to 22 minutes. Wow!
- we learned two new poems. Check them out here!
- we learned that readers are persistent and DON’T GIVE UP
- we learned how to stretch our words for spelling during writing workshop.
- we have both reading and writing partners. Ask your child who their partner is.
- we all had new jobs this week. Ask your child what their job was.
