This week In school...
- Isette shared about her weekend with Piggie. Zoe took Piggie home on Friday. Can't wait to hear all about your weekend adventures!
- We celebrated Zoe & Nathan's birthdays. Happy birthday!!!
- Mrs. Adam's came in as a mystery reader. Thank you for reading to our class! (If you are interested, please email me and we can find a time for you to come in!)
- We are continuing to work on becoming independent first graders. Each week we are discussing a new skill which will help students become independent problem solvers and workers. This past week we worked on Get started right away. Ask your child what this looks like and sounds like in the classroom. In previous weeks we practiced staying in one spot (again, ask your child what this looks like in our room), and reading the room.
- We are discovering that as we become stronger readers, the words we are trying to solve are becoming more challenging. We are learning ways to break longer words up into parts and how to use words that we already know to solve new words.
- we are continuing to work on independence during writing workshop. Students have LOVED being able to free write during this time. Students are writing sequels to some of their favorite read alouds, continuing on with nonfiction writing, experimenting with writing their own version of an Elephant and PIggie book, or just making up a story! Our next unit of study will start after February vacation and it will focus on persuasive writing.
- we had a math assessment on Monday. This next unit of study will continue to explore tens, adding and subtracting ten from any given number, telling time to the half hour, and counting combinations of coins (dimes, nickels, and pennies)
- we started a new unit in Fundations. We are learning about consonant blends. These are two consonants next to each other that each have their own individual sound.
- we also learned about r controlled vowels (like the ar in car and the or in horn).
- we practiced for our Mo Day celebration! We are sooooo excited to spread some Mo Love!
- In science we continued to learn and experienment with air. We discovered that air is something that takes up space. It can be contained and squeezed into a smaller containers (watch out though! It might make that bag pop!) We also learned that air can move, and air has strength to lift things. Ask your child what they have discovered about air!
- 2/10 - Report cards will go home.
- 2/11 - 100th day of school celebration (technically it's the 99th day of school though :-)
- 2/12 - Early Release Day
- 2/13 - Mo Day celebration. You may come down to the classroom at 9:20. The celebration will start promptly at 9:30.
- 2/14 - Our student council voted on 2/14 to be a Beach Themed spirit day. Valentines Day. Students will pass out Valentine's in the afternoon. Thank you for all of the Valentine's Day decorations! They are going to have so much fun this week making their mailboxes!
